Training Services

”PROPERLY TRAINED, MAN CAN BE A DOG’S BEST FRIEND.”

I use reward based training (positive reinforcement) to work with all dogs and service excellence when working with owners. Having endless patience for working with dogs, I watch what dogs are telling us (by their choices and body language) and make a plan of how to work with you and your dog, starting by asking for consent from the dog. We start with working with what the dog offers for action and behaviour and build upon this starting point, training strategies are fully explained and demonstrated. I also share resources with dog owners to achieve an informed owner, a confident and relaxed dog, and stronger bond between owner and dog.

INDOOR EXERCISE EXTRAVAGANZA

Exercise Your Dog Inside through Mental and Physical Enrichment

When the weather outside is frightful, but we still need to exercise our dogs safely for a happy and healthy dog, what can we do? Utilizing the family spaces in your home, we will guide you on how to enhance your dog’s play with scent and problem-solving games using items commonly found around the home (we will not be using expensive retail toys). We will demonstrate how to activate the spaces in your home to create a variety of physical exercise tasks from canine cardio to puppy parkour as appropriate for your dog’s breed, age, ability, and physical wellness. In our previous experience as a Behaviour Enrichment Volunteer at the Cochrane Humane Society, we have plenty of practice with a wide variety of dogs and assessing their individual canine talents. We will bring the fun for you and your dog and leave you with a diverse repertoire of games, exercises and ideas for the future so your dog never gets bored.

Owners receive:

  • Customized quick reference documents (these provide point form tips as reminders of the games taught).

  • One month of telephone, text and/or email follow-up as needed. We are here to address your questions as they arise.

  • Meet and Greet NOT required prior to session

2 Hour session within Airdrie - $95.00 (+GST)

HAPPY BEGINNINGS

Foundation Training – for puppies under six months of age.

Starting with the foundations of obedience cues, each session builds upon the previous. Your pup will choose to give you their attention and respond to your cues. As puppy progresses, we add distractions, distance and length of time into the training sessions to ready your pup for the real world. Our goal is to have a puppy who has a large inventory of positive experiences and looks to their owner for guidance. We work on offered attention exercises, brain game play and loose leash walking manners. I can address your questions such as appropriate canine equipment, toys and husbandry care during each session or between sessions as questions arise.

Training sessions consist of six to eight 75 minute sessions that can be provided once or twice per week dependent on the owner’s availability. For optimum results, all members of the household living with the dog are strongly encouraged to attend all of the training sessions.

- MEET and GREET required prior to first training session, 1 hour Meet and Greet fee $40.00 (inc GST)

Owners receive:

  • Customized quick reference cards (these cards provide point form tips as the reminders of the training techniques and cues taught. These are an easy reference for everyone in the household to use, to provide continuity between sessions).

  • Free telephone, text and/or email follow-up as needed for one year following the first training session. We are here to address your questions as they arise.

TRAINING REFRESHER

New Start Training – for adult dogs over 1 year of age.

Does your dog have a behaviour you wished would cease? Dogs can pick-up bad habits as quickly as good habits, and just like humans, it can be a form of misdirected communication. Left unaddressed, bad habits can start to erode the relationship between our dogs and us.

I have worked with some challenging dogs in my life. But I have never met a ‘bad’ dog. In fact, dogs with ‘bad’ behaviours are often the most fun to work with as they are very smart and keen to work if properly directed. Once we acknowledge what our dogs are telling us and re-direct their intellect and physical energy into positive behaviours, everything becomes fun – for us and the dog!

If you want to deepen the bond between you and your dog, unlock the potential of your dog and, discover the trainer inside of you, this is the training for you. As each dog is as unique as we are, each approach will be unique to your dog and your lifestyle.

For optimum results, all members of the household living with the dog are strongly encouraged to attend all of the training.

Training sessions are 75 minute sessions that are best provided weekly at a minimum.
